Supporting uniquely challenged
young warriors
Since we experienced first hand, the struggles of surviving the emotional and financial difficulties that come with having a child born with genetic or other physical challenges, God has set it on our hearts to alleviate that for others as much as we can.
Not everyone can afford quality treatment, effective training, required therapies and specialized child education, which focuses on the physical and/or cognatively less fortunate.
We were blessed to have family and friends supporting us, but as we endured the processes, we met others, alone and suffering without that. We've seen people give up all that they have, in order to provide the care needed, and even then... sadly, it's often not enough.
Children with disabilities endure significant daily hardships that deeply shape their lives. Motor challenges in cerebral palsy or spina bifida limit mobility, confining kids to wheelchairs and turning simple tasks like walking or playing into exhausting battles. Speech delays from apraxia or specific language impairment foster isolation, as children struggle to express needs or form friendships, leading to frustration and low self-esteem. Learning difficulties in autism, dyslexia, ADHD, or Fragile X hinder academic progress, causing repeated failures that erode confidence and increase dropout risks. Hearing, speech, sight & breathing impairments from Treacher Collins syndrome exacerbate communication barriers, often requiring costly aids or surgeries, while sensory processing disorder overwhelms with everyday stimuli, triggering meltdowns.
These struggles exact a heavy toll on families. Parents juggle endless therapies, medical appointments, and specialized equipment, draining finances—muscular dystrophy treatments alone can cost a fortune. Emotional exhaustion mounts from advocacy battles in under-resourced schools, sleep deprivation from night crises, and the grief of watching unfulfilled potential. Siblings may resent divided attention, straining bonds. Yet, resilient families often emerge stronger, fostering empathy and unbreakable unity amid the relentless grind.
By bridging the gap, we've seen how amazing these children can be - despite their unique challenges, they have thrived beyond our expectations. From township Paralympians racing ahead with unyielding grit to autistic coders building apps that change lives, dyslexic entrepreneurs launching successful startups, and resilient storytellers captivating audiences, these young South Africans transform challenges into superpowers. Their boundless creativity, fierce determination, and infectious joy outperform every limitation, inspiring communities with ubuntu spirit. With love, support, and inclusion, they not only survive but soar, proving that every child’s potential shines brighter than we ever imagined.
One of our twin boys has Treacher Collins Syndrome. This affects the bone structure of the face, where various complications arise.
